Sarah Laabs, DVM
Veterinarian
I attended Michigan State University for undergraduate studies prior to earning my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri. After veterinary school, I worked in a walk-in emergency and general practice outside of Chicago before moving home to be closer to family. My professional interests include dentistry and preventative medicine. I love spending time with my family, which includes my husband, two daughters, and black Labrador (Breslin – go green!). In my free time, I enjoy home renovation projects, playing piano, traveling, and spending time with my girls! I can’t wait to meet your furry family member!

Jamie Cottrell, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Cottrell joined the GLAH team in October 2022. She grew up on her grandparents’ farm in Kentucky, where they raised cattle, sheep, and goats. She attended the University of Kentucky for her undergraduate studies and received her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Biotechnology with a minor in Animal Science. She then attended Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2016 with her Doctor in Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, she practiced at a small animal clinic for 2 years. Prior to leaving Kentucky, she was working at a mixed animal clinic, still mainly focusing on small animal medicine, and had practiced there for 4 years. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, both near and far, as well as reading and working on various sewing crafts at home.

Courtney Knopps
Practice Manager
I have been around animals my whole life, so joining the Grass Lake Animal Hospital team in 2013 was the perfect fit for me. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have pets, ranging from cats to bunnies to lizards. My grandpa was a dairy farmer, so I also spent a great deal of time on his farm when I was younger, enjoying the outdoors and learning about his trade. I live in Grass Lake with my two cats, Murphy Bean and Ophelia, both of which are rescues. I’m the crazy cat lady (and yes, I also LOVE dogs), and if you don’t believe me, my whole bathroom is decorated with cats. If I’m not here, you can usually find me with family or friends. I have two nephews, Henry and Jacob, who are my world. I also enjoy reading, football (Go Pack Go!), and riding my motorcycle.

Breanna Showerman
LVT
I graduated from Michigan State University in 2018 with a degree in Veterinary Technology. Growing up I lived on a farm and did 4-H, showing cattle and pigs. I always knew I had a love for animals and have wanted to me in the Vet Med field since I was a little girl! In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, friends, and pets. I’m married to my high school sweet heart and we have our daughter, Layla. We also have 2 dogs (Remington and Desiree) and 3 cats (Taz, Nala, and Willow). Fun fact: I worked at GLAH when I was in high school as a kennel attendant, so it’s so good to be back home where my love for Vet Med really started now that I am a licensed Technician.

Ginny Heinz
Veterinary Assistant
Hi, I am Ginny. I have been a Veterinary Assistant since 2015. I graduated with my Associate of Arts Degree in St. Charles, MO in 2015. In 2017, I married my high school sweetheart and then moved here to Michigan. I have two dogs, a 7-year-old Great Dane Mix and a 6-year-old Lab Mutt. When I am not working, you can find me either camping or fishing on the lake.

JENNIFER CRAIG
Receptionist
Hello, I’m Jennifer. I always knew I wanted to work with animals. I spent my summers growing up on my grandparent’s ranch, helping in any way I could. My schooling took me in a different direction until 2020 when I started at Grass Lake Animal Hospital. I have been married for eight years and have two dogs, Memphis and Gemma, and three cats, Squish, Nash, and Kovu. I am fluent in Spanish, and I love to study history, travel, and just be outdoors.

Laurie Graham
Receptionist
I’ve spent my life around animals, from growing up on a farm with cows, goats, and chickens, to volunteering at a wildlife infirmary. I’ve fostered and bottle-raised kittens and worked at a horse farm. I’ve always been happiest around animals of all kinds. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2013 and have had a few career changes along the way and I’m so glad they led me to GLAH in October 2022. I’m married to an incredibly supportive husband (that never gets mad at the strays I bring home). I have three amazing kids, and two shelter mutts, Reese and Ducky. I enjoy hiking and backpacking, paddle boarding, painting, and creating fiber art.
